Pinecrest's Fall Season Opens a Month Before the Jazz Does

Jazz at Pinecrest Gardens begins its 17th season on Saturday, Nov. 7, with Allyson Briggs of Fleur Seule and The Dan Gabel Big Band, and the season announcement put that series at the top of the page. Three ticketed concerts at the Gardens come before that opener, though. Most of what Pinecrest has scheduled for fall falls in one stretch, the eight days from Oct. 17 to Oct. 24.

In that week, a contemporary photography exhibition opens at the Gardens, Nu Deco Ensemble plays the Banyan Bowl, the Village runs a free Halloween night at Evelyn Greer Park, and a wine tasting leads into a blues and gypsy jazz show under the dome. If you've been waiting for the jazz series to start your fall weekends at Red Road, you'd miss most of it.

Three concerts before the jazz opener

The season starts on a Sunday afternoon. Orchestra Miami brings its family-friendly "Flamenco y Folklórico" to Pinecrest Gardens on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 3 p.m. A matinee is the easiest Gardens ticket of the fall if you have young kids or want to be home before dark.

Six days later, Nu Deco Ensemble takes the Banyan Bowl at 11000 Red Road on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m. The Sound Session series, now in its second year, follows on Saturday, Oct. 24, with Hazmat Modine. The season release describes the band as a collective that mixes Delta blues, gypsy jazz and global rhythms.

Pinecrest Gardens executive director Cristina Blanco explained the venue's appeal this way in the August announcement:

"You can hear a Grammy-winning artist perform under a geodesic dome in a tropical garden – and there's nowhere else in Miami-Dade that offers that."

The same release says every concert guest gets free parking and can use the pre-show concession areas. That helps with the week below, since two of its busiest nights are at the same address.

The week of Oct. 17 to 24, day by day

This is the stretch to plan around, in order:

  1. Saturday, Oct. 17. "Miami Through the Lens: An Exhibition of Contemporary Photography" opens at Pinecrest Gardens and stays up through Jan. 3. Nu Deco Ensemble plays the Banyan Bowl that night at 8 p.m. Come in daylight to see the photographs and stay for the concert.
  2. Sunday, Oct. 18. The Pinecrest Farmers Market sets up in the South Parking Lot at 11000 Red Road. The event listing runs it from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  3. Friday, Oct. 23. Track or Treat and a Movie fills Evelyn Greer Park from 5 to 9 p.m. Trick-or-treating starts at 5, Zootopia 2 starts at 7:30, and the Village lists admission as free. Across town that same evening, Pinecrest Gardens hosts Parents Night Out: Halloween at 6 p.m. for kids ages 4 to 9. The event page sells tickets but doesn't list a price.
  4. Saturday, Oct. 24. Pinecrest Uncorked! sets up a wine tasting in the Gardens before the Hazmat Modine show. The tasting costs $65 to $75, and concert and VIP packages are also on sale. Hazmat Modine plays the Banyan Bowl afterward.

That Friday has two options for one evening. If your kids are 4 to 9, you can drop them at the Gardens for Parents Night Out, or bring the whole family to Evelyn Greer Park for free candy and a movie. Both start within an hour of each other.

For food that week, two stops on South Dixie Highway sit at either end of the day. H&H Bagels opened at 11311 S. Dixie Highway in Suniland Shopping Center in February, and Miami New Times reported a line before 7 a.m. on opening day. Sergio's has been at 11927 S. Dixie Highway since Dec. 15, 2025, and its outdoor terrace is shaded by oaks. One works for bagels before the Sunday market and the other for dinner before a Saturday show.

When the listings disagree

Several October events show different times depending on where you look. The August season release went out early, and the Gardens' own event pages have changed since. Here's what each source says:

Event Earlier or outside listing Pinecrest Gardens listing
Hazmat Modine, Oct. 24 8:30 p.m. in the August release 8:15 p.m.
Uncorked! tasting, Oct. 24 6 p.m. in the August release 6:30 p.m.
Todo el Mundo Dice Aho, Nov. 14 5 to 10 p.m. per the organizer 6 to 10 p.m.
Farmers Market, Sundays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the page's own description 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The safer bet is the earlier time in each row. For the Oct. 24 double bill, arriving by 6 p.m. covers either tasting start. Check the event page on pinecrestgardens.org the day before.

Sunday mornings keep going all season

The market doesn't take a fall break. The Gardens' calendar lists it every Sunday through September and on into October and November, including Oct. 25 and Nov. 1. Free community yoga runs from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Today, Oct. 4, is a market day, and so are Oct. 11, 18 and 25.

Oct. 11 is the easiest day to stack. You can do yoga and the market in the morning, and Orchestra Miami's flamenco matinee starts at 3 p.m. in the same garden.

November starts where the jazz does

Once October ends, the calendar shifts back toward the series announced in August. Mini Camp: STEAM runs on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ages 4 to 9 at $85. The Jazz opener follows on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. On Nov. 14, the medicine-music festival Todo el Mundo Dice Aho takes over the Banyan Bowl, with organizer tickets from $33 to $111 before service fees.

December brings two holiday shows. Allan Harris sings a Nat King Cole Christmas on Dec. 12, and Orquesta La Oferta plays a Parranda Navideña tribute to El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico on Dec. 19, both at 8 p.m. The season release also mentions a centennial celebration for Antonio Carlos Jobim later on, but it doesn't list that date among the fall shows.

The park still expected this month

Outside the Gardens, one October item hasn't happened yet. The Village's project page for Gary C. Matzner Park, at the southeast corner of Kendall Drive between 67th Avenue and 65th Court, says construction began in August 2025 and still shows an October 2026 opening. Planned features include a covered playground, a walking path, a restroom shelter and parking. The page doesn't give a ribbon-cutting date. The next regular Village Council meeting is Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m., the likeliest place for an update.

The bigger park project has a longer timeline. Aleyda Mas Park is a 5-acre site at 11855 SW 60th Avenue with trails, a lagoon and a large house. It's planned as a nature and recreation park with an indoor facility. The Village awarded construction to Waypoint Contracting on April 14, 2026, and now targets a November 2027 opening. That's one more fall season of Banyan Bowl nights before the new park opens.

If you're thinking about how a new park on Kendall Drive or the Aleyda Mas project could affect your street, Jon and Cristina at Gilman Group follow these Village projects closely and are glad to talk it through.
