The Miami Metrorail is among the most convenient ways of getting around many major parts of the city.  Hundreds, if not thousands of commuters use it every day to get to work and it’s also one of the best ways to stay away from traffic during major concerts or city events.  The areas below the Metrorail aren’t the most eye-catching thing to behold, comprised largely of a paved or dirt path that serves its intended purpose but looks drab.  With the Underline, these ugly paths are set to be transformed in a big way.

The Underline will focus on the underutilized land below the Metrorail, extending from the Dadeland South station all the way to the Brickell Station near the Miami River, transforming all of the area into a lush, linear park full of art and a beautiful urban trail.  With the Underline, bicyclist and pedestrian safety will be improved thanks to more than 95 acres of verdant, open space.  Over nine miles will be set aside for art installations, boosting the economy and encouraging development along US1.  The UM School of Architecture Studies and New York-based James Corner Field Operations are overseeing the design of the project, which has yet to announce a definitive timeline for completion.
